#001 Electrical Maintenance

THE SITUATION:
In an unfortunate event a client had fallen in love with a home when house hunting. They found there electrical service in a less than ideal situation. However, they were assured by a real estate agent that this was a real easy fix. Based on the real estate agent remarks our future client purchased the home. Our client had scheduled an appointment with us to have the problem resolved.
Little did she know that the negligence of the previous owner not having this problem fixed when it occurred. They now had birds living in there meter cabinet. Ammonia generated from the birds excrements had now damaged the cables leading into the home. Creating even more damage and cost for the home owner.
WHAT WE DID:
Requested a permit for the repair. We had to coordinate with Manitoba Hydro to shut off power to the home. The birds nest (at the time unoccupied) was removed from the meter cabinet. Replaced the pipe that fed power from Manitoba Hydro. We installed an expansion joint on the pipe so that the shifting of the driveway and ground would not damage the pipe or the cables.
Now the Ammonia caused unrepairable damage to the cables in the pipe going into the home. We had pulled out those cables and installed new cables and connected them in the appropriate order.
Now a simple fix of a pipe pulling apart from the ground is a very easy fix it can take less than an hour to fix. Now have this dilemma present itself partially through the repair can cause over a half day of work and a lot more cost in material.
If you or someone you know has a problem similar to this matter please contact a qualified electrician, and have this fixed immediately.
